A good news for people for Dwarka, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is going to complete the acquisition of lands for connecting the Dwarka Expressway with IGI Airport. This could considerably decrease the time taken to reach the airport as it will bypass NH8 which is always clogged with jam. Tentatively NHAI is going to take a month and a half to acquire 24.03 hectares of land in the Bijwasan and Bamnoli areas of the capital to construct the incomplete 1km portion of the Dwarka expressway in Delhi.
Last year on the request of Haryana Government the Union Ministry of Road and Transport had granted the status of National Highway to Dwarka expressway.
As per NHAI sources, it has been planned to build a tunnel, which could take of some pressure from the existing roads. It should be exclusively for the connecting airport. Already a proposal for this is under consideration to the Airport Authority of India and DIAL (Delhi International Airport Private Limited), the private company which operates Delhi’s IGI airport.
“We are hopeful that this idea takes off as it will take some traffic pressure off the road and provide an alternative route for reaching the airport”, said a senior NHAI official, who was present at a high level meeting of NHAI, DDA, NCR Planning Board and private consultants that was held recently.
So what’s in for the people, as planned, if the project becomes a reality, we could see a hike in property prices and obviously a hassle free travel to IGI Airport.
