वृषारूढ़ा शूलधरां शैलपुत्री यशस्विनीम॥
Day one is devoted to the Goddess Shailputri, or we known maa by the name of daughter of the Himalayas, another form of Shakti, wife of Lord Shiva. Shailaputri literally means the daughter (putri) of the mountains (shaila).
Variously known as Sati Bhavani, Parvati or Hemavati, the daughter of the king of the Himalayas, she is the first among Navadurgas as she is a daughter of Giriraj Himalayas . She rides a bull and carries a trident and a lotus in her two hands. By the worship of Maa Shailputri, devotee gets all blessings of good life and prosperity.
