Chatra Navratri 2013 – 11th – 19th April 2013

Although the Maa Shakti Navratras are celebrated twice a year: Chatra Navratri and  Sharada Navaratri.

Chaitra Navratri or Rama Navratri or Vasant Navratri is celebrated during the Chaitra Month ( beginning of summer, March – April) also called Chait Navratras. This festival is related to Goddess Shakti in different forms – Maa Durga, Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati. Nine days of festival are also known as Raama Navratri.

Chaitra Navratris fast observed when Mother Nature undergoes climate change. This navratri helps our body to prepare for summer seasonal food and environment.

 Sharad Navarati  is the most important Navaratris or called as Maha Navaratri (the Great Navratri) and is celebrated in the month of Ashvina and is celebrated during Sharad (beginning of winter, September–October).

Why Vasant Navratri is celebrated?

The reason stated for celebrating Vasant Navratri is given as:

  • To welcome the seasonal changes and cropping of crops and other festivals of the year will starts from the same day.
  • To worship the divine power of Shakti and at may places considered as birth of Lord Rama which was started by our ancestors.
