Exposed: Fire Safety goes for a Toss in Dwarka; Fire Department Reluctant to Act

exposed-compressDwarka, New Delhi: Having a Fire Safety Certificate from the Delhi Fire Services is a must for any building in the city. An RTI application filed by Ek Sangharsh (an NGO based in Dwarka) has revealed that many establishments in the sub-city of Dwarka do not have the mandatory fire safety clearance and still the buildings have been in operation for years together.

These establishments running without a Fire Safety Clearance include the following:

1)      Ayushman Hospital, Sector 12, Dwarka

2)      Bensups Hospital, Sector 12, Dwarka

3)      Arthemis Hospital, Sector 20, Dwarka

4)      Manish Global Mall, Sector 22, Dwarka

5)      Welcom Hotel, Sector 10, Dwarka

6)      Evergreen Sweets, Sector 10, Dwarka

7)      KFC, Sector 4, Dwarka

8)      Delhi International School, Sector 23, Dwarka

9)      DDA Market Complexes of Sector 6, 10, 11, 12, 4 and 5, Dwarka

Shobhit Chauhan, President, Ek Sangharsh said, ‘Hospitals, schools, markets, etc operating without a fire safety certificate is a very serious issue. There have been a few fire incidents in the recent past. It seems we arewaiting for some major accident to take action.’

Safety of the common man is being compromised in the national capital. It is a very crucial issue and authorities must take immediate action. As informed by Chauhan, Ek Sangharsh has sent a letter to the Chief Fire Officer, Delhi for immediate action against the above mentioned buildings and others operating without fire safety clearance.

Dr. G. C. Mishra, Chief Fire Officer (for areas including Dwarka) when contacted by Dwarka Express, said that he was not ware of any such issue.

Now, its up to the common man if they still want to use these building or they will boycott them! We pray no untoward accident takes place and everybody stays safe. But such casual attitude of the authorities and concerned building owners surely raises a question mark on the way things are happening in our city.
