Universal Children’s Day celebrated on November 20. However in India, Children’s day famous by the name of Bal Diwas, celebrated on 14th November every year. This day dedicated to all children of our nation. Chacha Nehru’s birthday (14th November, 1889, the first Prime Minister of our Nation) is committed to Children of India. The day is full of all fun and frolic, celebration of childhood and importance of every child to nation.
Chacha Nehru was affectionate of children and roses. In fact he repeatedly compared the two, saying that children were like the buds of flower in a garden of nation. They should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they were the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow. He felt that children are the real strength of a country, foundation of society and he saw as they are the bright future of India. He was the ‘beloved’ of all the children who gave him the endearing name of ‘Chacha Nehru’.
Many functions/programmes are organized in schools, offices and other kid’s related organizations. Most schools hold cultural performances on this day, run by the children themselves. Teachers also get involved, and may perform songs and dances for their students. The State and the Central governments also make it a point to showcase Children’s films as part of Film festivals organized in many parts of the country on this date. All over the country, various cultural, social, institutions conduct competitions for children. Children’s Day is seen as a day for the kids to engage in fun.
