Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today be addressing the nation at the 5th Digi–Dhan Mela organized at Delhi’s Talkatora stadium. The day marks the end of 50 day period of demonetization. As per confirmed reports, PM will be making some important announcements at the event. Measures regarding widening of tax base and reconstructing a clean economy which is free from black money will be the key points of PM’s speech. Moreover, PM is also expected to announce some relief to common people, small traders and farmers.
The announcement will be made in coincidence with the IT ministry’s Lucky Grahak Yojna, an incentive scheme to encourage digital payments and cashless society. Interestingly, Tihar jail may be declared as a digitally enabled institution. The focus will be on encouraging people to break down black money to ensure that the hard work of all Indians towards making demonetization a success does not go waste.
Continuity of the reform process will be ensured and the interests of honest tax payers will be kept in mind. The withdrawal caps of Rs 2500 a day from ATM’s and Rs 24,000 from bank accounts each week might be relaxed soon. A message to those using dishonest means will also be spelt out, warning them that strict action after surveillance will follow suit.
